EAGLES,
Here is the schedule for Saturday, April 21st, 2007. I am asking that anyone driving cars, trucks, vans, etc., be at the plaza by 11:00 AM and earlier if possible. Parking is free on weekends but you may not find on street parking available unless arrive early. There is also free parking in the downtown garages. Some of our people will be there as early as 9:00 AM to assist in getting people to the right places. There are 2 memorial plaques situated in the plaza, one to local Viet Nam veterans and the other to a local Medal of Honor recipient. We intend to rally at those points in order to protect them from vandals. I'm advised that the local authorities will place barrier fencing around them but we still need to be there just as we were for our monuments and memorials in DC on March 17th. Motorcycle riders will meet at Greensboro Harley Davidson, 538 Farragut Street, Greensboro, NC @ 11:00 AM in preparation for the ride to the plaza. We will again have some of our people there early to assist in the preparation for the ride into town. Below you will find a map link to the H-D dealership. Map Link: http://tinyurl.com/35mxht From there it is a 3.5 mile ride to the plaza, where we will ride around the plaza and then into the Parking Garage, where parking is FREE. Below you will find the planned route to be used on the ride to the Plaza. In "Biker Speak," Kick Stands Up at 11:45 AM for the ride into town. Those of you driving in can also use this map as a guide to get you to the plaza location. http://tinyurl.com/35nrnr U.S., POW, and service flags will be flown to the Plaza from the HD shop by those equipped to do so. We look forward to a large turn out so please come early. Bring your signs, bring your flags, and bring your Eagle Spirit! EAGLES UP! Bill Cook, NC - SC EAGLES! A meeting was held with the Greensboro Police Department and we have been granted an area directly across the street from the protesters. Planned barriers will be removed. We will have folks in the area to get you to the proper location. This is a win for us. -PARKING- The parking area is located at the intersection of Washington and Edgeworth streets, in the parking lots of the YMCA and GTCC. These lots are just across the street from the local police department. I would like to see as many of you as possible meet at the location of the lots and go to the area granted us by the city together. Please check your web map of choice to get yourselves there. I urge you to be there early. I would recommend that you plan to arrive not later than 10 to 10:30 AM. Those riding in on motorcycles, no change to the original meeting place or time. A few issues to keep in mind. NO WEAPONS OF ANY KIND. Sign must be of the poster board or vinyl type and cannot be on metal poles. Flags on the metal poles that they were produced with are permissible. If you carry you flag on your bike with a piece of rebar, that could be a problem. Use good judgment in all cases. The WCW will be marching from one of the local universities to the plaza.. any effort to impede their progress with result in arrest. Simply stated, its against the law! Many have voiced concern about the monuments located in the plaza. We share that concern. There will be barriers around them as well as the physical presence of law enforcement officers. We will NOT be able to shield them as we had wished. I have every confidence that the police will protect them with the same passion and resolve that we would. These guys are professionals and for the most part veterans as well. Final words... We are guests in their city. Obey the laws and obey the officers. This city has experienced some extremely violent rallies over the years. We have assured them that we are not there to commit acts of violence or civil disobedience. Doing so will only hurt the Gathering of Eagles. If we are to be the voice of support for our troops and their mission, we should not do so with violence or with foul mouthed rebuttal. We can counter their efforts by being civil, loud, proud, and law abiding citizens. After all, isn't that what we said we'd be? To give the media reason to display us as hooligans is the last thing that we need. We are a fledging organization with only March 17th under our belts. It was a huge success. This mission must be as well. And for it to be, we must be there in numbers and conduct ourselves accordingly. EAGLES UP! Bill Cook, NC - SC |
